a half-point profit on 1000 shares of General Motors stock has the same profitability ($500 gross) as a half-point profit on 1000 shares of Apple Computer, a half-point profit on 100m IBM bonds, a half-point profit on 10 option contracts, a half-dollar profit on 10 gold futures contracts, a half-point profit on one U.S. Treasury bond futures contract, etc.
The bottom line is that the mathematics of trading securities works the same no matter what you are trading. You don't care if you are trading horse manure futures or Treasury bond futures: A profit is a profit regardless of what you trade.
Market price fluctuation is one of the keys fueling intraday trading. One form of happiness for DAET traders is active, dynamic, and rapidly moving stock prices. In the old days, a nonvolatile market used to be a problem for the Direct Access Electronic Trader. Today, even in the dullest of market days, there is always some stock on the run which is a proper trading vehicle. DAET includes exchange-listed securities as well as Nasdaq securities. The number of moving stocks is too much for the human eye to behold, so top-quality trading systems have an automatic analysis program watching all the stocks and streaming the movements you want to review to a special ticker on your computer screen. Even with the most refined search parameters, there should be action on your analysis program.
Even in a nonvolatile market, there will always be stocks that are good candidates for the market-maker style of trading. The DAET should be able to set a range within the inside market which can result in profitable trades through buying on the bid side and selling on the ask side.
Styles Of Trading
The reason that your trading has a chance to prosper is because you are unique. You are the only person in the world who is you and possesses all of your special talents, gifts, ideas, and insight. You will have your own ideas about how to trade and like any gifted student will soon surpass the master. In order to deal with your creative process, you will have to take measured risks.
